Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier - Amplifier based on Hypex NCOREx Technology

With the new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier, Teac Corporation is now expanding the Teac Reference 500 Series with a particularly exciting power amplifier, because it is based on the latest Hypex NCOREx technology and can be used not only for stereo but also for bi-amping and a configuration in bridged mode is also possible.

Story Highlights
  • The new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier from the Teac Reference 500 Series is an ultra-compact stereo power amplifier based on Hypex NCOREx Technology.

The Teac Corporation has been able to rely on various exciting product lines for years, with the Teac Reference 500 Series standing out in particular from the wide range of products offered by the traditional Japanese company. The solutions in this product line are all characterised by a particularly attractive price-performance ratio and thus address price-sensitive, but also very demanding HiFi enthusiasts.

They are likely to be very excited about the latest addition to the Teac Reference 500 Series, which the Japanese company is now presenting in the form of the Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier, the successor to the Teac AP-505 Stereo Power Amplifier, which has been on the market since 2019.

High-end HiFi in the desktop audio sector

The solutions of the Teac Reference 500 Series are considered true High-end HiFi, whereby they can undoubtedly be categorised as desktop audio due to their extremely compact dimensions alone.

Teac Corporation is on the right track with this, as the trend towards comparatively compact solutions has been evident for some time.

The Teac Reference 500 Series offers various options for creating a fine, compact HiFi chain, such as the Teac HA-507 Pure Analogue Headphone Amplifier/ Preamplifier or the Teac UD-507 DAC/ Preamp/ Headphone Amplifier, with the new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier as the ideal partner for both.

Compact in size, extremely elegant in appearance

The new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier measures no more than 290 mm in width, 271 mm in depth and 84,5 mm in height. As usual, the developers have opted for a solid aluminium housing with a choice of silver or black anodised finish.

The housing rests on three specially optimised feet for optimum decoupling and weighs in at 4,4 kg.

The front of the Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is adorned with a main switch and a selection button that can be used to determine what is displayed on the generously dimensioned and, of course, discreetly illuminated VU meters.

The rear of the Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier initially provides unbalanced inputs in the form of RCA sockets, but also balanced inputs in the form of XLR sockets. There are also 12 V triggers and a selector switch that can be used to select the amplifier’s operating mode – stereo, bi-amping or bridged mode.

The Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier has solid, capped screw terminals for connecting the speaker systems.

Rich performance thanks to Class D

As already mentioned, the new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is based on the latest amplifier technology in Class D. While the predecessor Teac AP-505 Stereo Power Amplifier in 2019 was still designed as a Class D amplifier based on Hypex NCORE Technology, the new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is an amplifier with Hypex NCOREx Amplifier Modules and thus the latest generation of this technology from the specialist Hypex Electronics B.V., which is used here in a version specially optimised by Teac Corporation for the latest model.

The Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier delivers two times 125 watts into 4 ohms and two times 70 watts into speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms. The manufacturer even specifies a peak output of two times 170 watts into 4 ohms and two times 95 watts into 8 ohms.

Of course, the Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is particularly powerful in bridge mode, as it delivers 230 watts of nominal power and even 350 watts of peak power to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms.

Robust power supply

The basis for this is, among other things, a solid power supply based on a toroidal transformer. Each channel is equipped with a capacity of 18.800 µF to deliver a powerful, clear sound. In addition, Schottky junction diodes are integrated to suppress rectifier noise and ensure a cleaner, more stable power supply for improved performance, as the manufacturer promises.

Prices and availability

The new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier will soon be available from specialist retailers, according to Teac Corporation. As already described, you can choose between silver and black. The price is listed at € 1.899,-.

Getting to the point

The new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is a particularly exciting new stereo power amplifier in the Teac Reference 500 Series from Teac Corporation, as it proves to be a very compact, very elegant and at the same time very powerful solution. The Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is designed in Class D and utilises the latest technology from specialist Hypex Electronics B.V., the Hypex NCOREx Amplifier Technology. Whether Teac HA-507 Pure Analogue Headphone Amplifier/ Preamplifier or Teac UD-507 DAC/ Preamp/ Headphone Amplifier, the new Teac AP-507 Stereo Power Amplifier is probably the perfect playing partner.
