Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar – Soundbar redefined
With the new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar, the Danish company SL Audio A/S is presenting a solution that redefines what a so-called soundbar is capable of, as the very first Steinway Lyngdorf brand soundbar is advertised.

The company SL Audio A/S is normally known for solutions in the HiFi and Home cinema sector as well as custom installation, which can be considered to be of a quality level that is clearly in the absolute High-end segment. Hardly anyone would therefore think that the Danes would bring something as “banal” as a soundbar onto the market, but that is exactly what SL Audio A/S is now doing with the Steinway Lyngdorf brand.
With the new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar, a Steinway Lyngdorf brand soundbar is now actually available for the first time, although it should be clear that this solution has little in common with a conventional soundbar.
The redefinition of the term soundbar
The Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar completely redefines what is usually understood by a soundbar, as SL Audio A/S clearly claims. It is said to be a solution that plays at the same high level as all other Steinway Lyngdorf brand solutions, and of course, in the tried and tested manner, the company was not prepared to make any compromises here either.
“The new soundbar is not of inferior quality or a compromise on sound like many other soundbar solutions. I think you’ll see that the size and appearance signal that it’s not a compromise, but rather this product is intended for a smaller setup, with the same Steinway Lyngdorf quality. It’s for installations where our other products don’t fit, but you still want a Steinway product with your TV.”

The world’s largest and most powerful soundbar
To back up this statement, the company even refers to the new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar as the world’s largest and most powerful soundbar, using all the expertise it has gained over the years in the development of high-performance speaker systems.
The result is what the manufacturer itself describes as a high-performance design. This initially relies on two 10-inch long-throw woofers with aluminium cones, particularly strong neodymium magnets in the drive unit and a particularly rigid, flow-optimised aluminium suspension. Three AirMotion Transformer tweeters with Kapton foil and neodymium magnets in the drive unit are used for the treble range, and three drivers are used for the all-important mid-range frequency range, which also feature an anodised 5.25-inch aluminium cone and powerful neodymium magnets in the drive unit to guarantee a consistently clear, detailed sound image and a frequency range between 40 Hz and 20 kHz. This should also be ensured by particularly powerful amplifiers; Steinway & Sons A1 or Steinway & Sons A2 Digital Power Amplifiers with twice 400 watts or even four times 400 watts of power are recommended here.
Of course, a particularly solid housing is required to ensure that such power can be fully utilised. To this end, the developers have opted for an extremely rigid and indeed heavy enclosure consisting of milled, solid aluminium front and rear panels. This construction houses a low-resonance MDF frame with five acoustically separated chambers inside.
Exquisite design
It goes without saying that the new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar is also based on Steinway Lyngdorf’s tried-and-tested exquisite design line.
The Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar features a black front with gold-plated frames around the tweeters and bronze-gold lacquered sides with black strings reminiscent of a piano and musical instruments.
Naturally, the Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar is assembled and finished by hand in Skive, Denmark, to the same quality standards as a Steinway & Sons piano, which should give this soundbar its distinctive appearance and longevity. For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that customer-specific finishes and refinements can of course be realised on request.
It should be noted that this solution weighs an impressive 48 kg with dimensions of 1.890 x 300 x 104 mm.
Part of the whole – Integrated Systems Approach
Finally, it should also be mentioned that the new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar does not stand alone, but is part of the extensive ecosystem of SL Audio A/S and can therefore be used almost at will with a wide variety of solutions from the company for the most diverse requirements.
The system approach taken here includes a wide range of other speaker systems, from Steinway & Sons stereo or surround processors to the company’s various powerful digital amplifiers. This also means that the Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar, in conjunction with the appropriate electronics, can also benefit from technologies such as the particularly accurate room calibration Lyngdorf RoomPerfect Technology.

The new Steinway & Sons Model S soundbar should be available towards the end of the year, as stated by the manufacturer during the presentation at High-end 2024. The exact price will also be announced at that time, but as a guide we can assume it will be around US$ 17.000,-.
