The new Sonus Faber Aster is intended to expand the range of custom installation systems offered by the Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Sonus Faber S.p.a., with this being the company's first outdoor speaker.

Story Highlights
  • With the Sonus Faber Aster, Sonus Faber S.p.a. is presenting an outdoor speaker for the first time at ISE 2023 in Barcelona.

Sonus Faber Aster is the name given by the Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Sonus Faber S.p.a. to its latest solution in the field of custom installation, and it is a premiere. For the first time, this loudspeaker system is a so-called outdoor speaker, which is supposed to offer the well-known sophisticated sound of Sonus Faber S.p.a. under all weather conditions.

The new Sonus Faber Aster made its debut at ISE 2023 in Barcelona, where the company presented it as an extension of the Sonus Faber Custom Installation Collection, as already mentioned.

Sonus Faber Aster – Per aspera ad astra

The new outdoor speaker from Sonus Faber S.p.a. owes its name to the Latin name for star – aster – with which the Italian high-end loudspeaker manufacturer wanted to make direct reference to its place of use.

Per aspera ad astra, through hardship to the stars, Sonus Faber S.p.a. cites this proverb again for the fact that they made every effort to avoid any compromises in sound in the field of outdoor speakers.

Passive Two-way system

The new Sonus Faber Aster is designed as a passive two-way system, combining a 5.81-inch diameter mid-bass driver with a 1.07-inch tweeter.

As if that wasn’t enough, there are two passive radiators arranged symmetrically on the left and right, which make the reproduction more sovereign, especially in the lowest frequency range, than one would expect from the rather compact speaker system.

The manufacturer recommends amplifiers with a power of 100 watts for the new Sonus Faber Aster with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and an efficiency of 88 dB, the frequency range is listed in the data sheet as 60 Hz up to 32 kHz.

Flexible to mount and certified according to IP65

The new Sonus Faber Aster measures only 20.5 x 19 x 29.34 cm and thus weighs 4.16 kg, as the data sheet reveals. What is very important is that this solution is certified according to IP65 and can thus be used everywhere outdoors.

The manufacturer speaks of a slim, organic shape, which on the one hand contributes significantly to flawless sound reproduction, as internal resonances and, due to the solid construction, also sound-damaging vibrations are prevented, and on the other hand of a design that can be easily integrated into any environment. The fact that the Sonus Faber Aster is available in black and white also contributes to this.

By the way, the assembly is supposed to be particularly easy. The aluminium mounting system is both intuitive and functional. A simple screw attaches the speaker to the wall, and a bayonet system secures the cabinet with a simple twist.

A spring mechanism inside the Sonus Faber Aster allows it to be tilted 15 degrees without adjusting any screws.

Prices and availability

The new Sonus Faber Aster should be available in specialist shops in the near future. However, we unfortunately do not have a recommended retail price for the local market at this time.

Getting to the point

It expands the Sonus Faber Custom Installation Collection with an outdoor speaker, the new Sonus Faber Aster, which Sonus Faber S.p.a. recently presented for the first time in Barcelona at ISE 2023. The manufacturer promises that the outstanding sound quality of Sonus Faber S.p.a. will now also be available for outdoor projects.
