Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS
Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS, three new weights for record players are now being presented by Pro-Ject Audio Systems. These are designed to provide secure support for the record and effective resonance absorption.
- Pro-Ject Audio Systems now offers a trio of weights for record players, namely the Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS models.
The company Pro-Ject Audio Systems already offered a range of so-called record pucks, i.e. essentially weights that are placed on records to ensure that the record sits securely, but also to prevent resonances that damage the sound right from the start.
The specialist for record players is now expanding its range in this area with three new models: Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS.
To stabilise the record
The task of the new Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS solutions is to stabilise the record during playback, as Pro-Ject Audio Systems explains.
A tight fit of the record optimises the playback of wavy sound carriers, for example, according to the company, although this only applies within certain limits, of course, for the sake of completeness.
Another important point, according to Pro-Ject Audio Systems, is that a Record Puck can prevent sound-damaging resonances right from the start; the mass of the Record Puck alone makes this possible.
Three models for different turntables
However, if you want to use a so-called record puck, you can’t just use any model at random, you have to make sure that you choose the right model for the respective drive, specifically the right weight class.
This is why Pro-Ject Audio Systems is now offering three new models, namely, as already mentioned, the Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS solutions.
Pro-Ject Record Puck S
According to Pro-Ject Audio Systems, the Pro-Ject Record Puck S model with a weight of 315 g is suitable for smaller record players, as it does not put too much strain on the turntable bearing, which leads to a higher rumble.
The Pro-Ject Record Puck S is made of aluminium and has a diameter of 78 mm and a height of 27 mm. A felt pad is of course available on the underside and this solution is offered in two versions, namely in silver and therefore polished aluminium, but also in black lacquered.
Pro-Ject Record Puck DS
The Pro-Ject Record Puck DS is made of stainless steel and has a diameter of 78 mm and a height of 27 mm. This solution weighs 915 g and, according to the manufacturer, is designed for turntables that should have a very robust platter bearing. Of course, a felt pad on the underside of the Record Puck also protects the record carrier and you can also choose between two versions – polished stainless steel and therefore silver, and black lacquered.
Pro-Ject Record Puck RS
The Pro-Ject Record Puck RS is a particularly elegant solution, as it is made of brass and weighs an impressive 1.030 g with a diameter of 78 mm and a height of 27 mm.
This makes it all the more important that a layer of felt on the underside protects the sound carrier, whereby you should really make sure that the turntable has a robust platter bearing and that the drive is also equipped for the additional weight. This Record Puck has no place on small turntables.
The Pro-Ject Record Puck RS is available in either black lacquered brass or chrome-plated brass with a high-gloss polished finish.
Prices and availability
The lightest Record Puck Pro-Ject Record Puck S is offered at a recommended retail price of € 79,-, for the Pro-Ject Record Puck DS you have to invest € 129,- and for the Pro-Ject Record Puck RS € 149,-.
Getting to the point
The new weights from Pro-Ject Audio Systems, which are now being launched on the market in the form of the three solutions Pro-Ject Record Puck S, Pro-Ject Record Puck DS and Pro-Ject Record Puck RS, should prove to be a simple yet effective way of tuning record playback. The weight of the puck presses the record against the turntable, reducing ripples in the record and resonances that would otherwise be transferred to the pickup. According to the manufacturer, these solutions improve the sound, particularly in terms of timing and cleanliness.
