“Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” Limited Edition Vinyl, CD and Download
Songs written by Tom Waits have always been the basis for many an exciting cover version. Now for autumn of this year there is a particularly interesting project on the release list of the Dualtone Music Group Inc. label, namely the album “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits”.
About Tom Waits you probably don’t have to say many words, the artist has been considered an outstanding musician for years and day, who shines not least because of his inimitable way of interpreting his songs. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of that, it is astonishing that there are numerous outstanding cover versions of Tom Waits of all artists, which sometimes are very much oriented on the original, sometimes appear completely independent.
In fact, it is often the case that you either love Tom Waits or don’t know what to do with his songs, whereby it is mainly due to his special interpretation, this must be clearly stated. Beside the often very complex, sometimes also quite idiosyncratic arrangements, it is of course especially his voice that is so characteristic, so if you “change” his voice, the songs of Tom Waits appear in a completely different light.
This is particularly striking in a project that is now offered by the label Dualtone Music Group Inc. on the Bandcamp platform, namely the album “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits”.
Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” is, as you can easily see, a compilation, a compilation of different artists, each of them interpreting Tom Waits’ songs in her own special way.
On this album you can find artists like Shelby Lynne, Patty Griffin, Rosanne Cash, Kat Edmonson or Courtney Marie Andrews, the spectrum ranges from the title song “Come on up the house” to “Hold on”, “Ol’ 55”, “Time” to “Downtown train” and “Jersey girl”, thus covering a very broad spectrum of different songs written by Tom Waits, as well as a long period of time in which these songs were written.
What is also exciting about this album is that it is available in various forms, first and foremost as “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” Digital Download, not only in lossy MP3 format, but also in FLAC Hi-res Audio with 24 Bit 96 kHz. Furthermore, a conventional “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” CD Edition is available, as well as a version as “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” Limited Vinyl Edition, where you get a double LP in white. This also applies to the version “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits” Limited Vinyl and CD Edition, which includes the aforementioned double LP in white, an audio CD and the download of the entire album.
All versions can already be ordered directly from Bandcamp on the project page.
Getting to the point
You love Tom Waits, or you don’t know what to do with his songs, there is not much in between… Although it’s probably all about his special interpretation, you have to keep this in mind. Beside the often very complex, sometimes also quite idiosyncratic arrangements, it is of course especially his voice that is so characteristic, so if you “change” it, the songs of Tom Waits sometimes appear in a completely different light. As for example on the new album “Come on up the house – Women sing Waits”, which is offered as limited edition vinyl, CD and download and sounds very promising, not only for Tom Waits fans…
