At the beginning of this year, FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. presented the FiiO KA17 Portable USB Headphone DAC/Amplifier, a solution that should enable appealing sound anytime and anywhere, as it is a USB DAC in combination with a headphone amplifier that is designed as a flexible playing partner for smartphones. It is therefore a solution that is already a kind of standard in the field of personal audio devices and of which there are various products on the market in a wide range of price and therefore quality classes. FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. alone has already launched dozens of such products on the market.
The FiiO KA17 Portable USB Headphone DAC/Amplifier is not only a particularly compact, but also a very powerful solution that can be used very flexibly, as the manufacturer promises. The new FiiO ESTICK Mini Power Bank, a power bank in miniature format designed exclusively for the FiiO KA17, is now available to match.
An extremely powerful, flexible D/A converter and headphone amplifier
Packaged in a robust aluminium housing, the FiiO KA17 Portable USB Headphone DAC/Amplifier is based on an XMOS X316 USB SoC from XMOS Technology and ESS ES9069Q DAC from ESS Technology Inc. in a dual-mono setup, can process audio signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz, as well as DSD with up to DSD512 and MQA, and can easily drive a wide variety of headphones with a particularly powerful output stage based on THX AAA 78+ amplifiers from THX Ltd. with a power output of up to 650 mW.
In addition to an unbalanced 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and a balanced 4.4 mm Pentaconn, an optical S/PDIF interface is also available. The connection as well as the power supply is realised via USB-C interface.
For a longer playing time
FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. now offers the optional FiiO ESTICK Mini Power Bank for FiiO KA17, which was specially developed for the FiiO KA17, so as not to put too much strain on the battery of a smartphone, for example.
This is plugged directly into the FiiO KA17 via USB-C and makes it only imperceptibly wider, meaning that the new device can still be described as downright tiny.
The FiiO ESTICK Mini Power Bank for the FiiO KA17 has a 1,100 mAh battery that delivers 5 V 0.6 A DC.
The manufacturer claims that this provides five hours of playtime, although this should of course only be taken as a guideline, as the actual value of this type of solution depends directly on individual usage.

The new FiiO ESTICK Mini Power Bank for the FiiO KA17 will be available shortly, according to the manufacturer, who has so far only given an indicative price of US$ 19,99.
